Local Man

What happens to a superhero when they’ve been canceled? That’s the set-up question behind Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs’s Local Man. Our hero (or anti-hero) Jack has recently been labeled persona non grata with his super team, Third Gen and forced to go back to his hometown of Farmington and move in with his parents. Unfortunately for Jack, the locals don’t take too kindly to his return. He gets into a bar brawl with his old “nemesis” Hodag and only agitates folks more. That same night, Hodag is locked up for the brawl and gets murdered in his cell, launching the story into new ground. A very cool addition to this book is that it’s split into two parts: the “main” story with Jack coming home and looking into the murder with art by Fleecs, and a 90’s throwback story that shows us Jack’s past with his super team drawn by Seeley.

From the get go Local Man fires on all cylinders. The down-home murder mystery is a surefire hit for anyone who liked Revival or Nailbitter, and the Liefeld biting will entertain any comic fan. Seeley and Fleecs have crafted a story that’s so perfectly “comic book” anyone with a heart for the medium can’t help but fall in love. I’ve only read issue one, but however this story unfolds, it's sure to be hit. Trust me, don’t miss this one.
